Find your inner Zen at the 2013 Mahabhuta Yoga Festival this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, November 15
th-17th at the Sanders Beach Community Center, located at 913 South I Street in Pensacola. The 2nd Annual Mahabhuta Yoga Festival will host 24 regional yoga studios in an amazing 17,500 square foot state of the art water view facility.
There will be twenty-four yoga workshops over the weekend with the “Water” room suitable for 300 people and the “Serpent” room suitable for 75 people. In addition, there will be LED Hoop performances, a marionette show, henna artists, organic & vibrant food, numerous artists and yoga-inspired vendors.
The talented Sean Johnson & the Wild Lotus Band will offer Kirtan, a practice that involves chanting hymns or mantras to the accompaniment of instruments, on Friday evening, and on Saturday evening, Rising Appalachia will perform on location at Sanders Beach Community Center.
Pensacola was chosen to host the event for its’ natural beauty and Southern charm, however the area also boast a tremendous amount of talented regional yoga teachers, artists, healers, and musicians. With several specialty yoga classes to choose from, there is sure to be something fun, new, and exciting to try, even for the most experienced yog-ees.
Get some are at the festival’s Aerial yoga class. Aerial yoga employs a fabric hammock or “yoga swing” to enhance and deepen traditional yoga postures. Students will receive guidance and support in this beautiful outdoor setting overlooking the water. Enjoy the views of the festival as the swing cradles your body towards a relaxed state. The rhythmic and fluid nature of an Aerial yoga practice connects us to the strength and stability of our core, which allows you to fully release into the depths of surrender.
Sharpen your focus while strengthening your core at the Intro to Slackline yoga class. Come learn this award winning practice which redefines balance as you know it! In this 90 min playshop you’ll learn the basics of the Slackasana series. This includes standing (commitment), kneeling (core strength), sitting (focus), arm balancing (breath), as well as exercises for more seasoned slackers to expand their comfort zone on the line. The Slackline Series is a unique practice that teaches complete body awareness, helping you to redefine your sense of balance and mental focus. This class is for all ages and skill levels; no experience of any kind required. A portion of all the proceeds will fund the Mahabhuta Yoga Foundation which will fund a scholarship for a Gulf Coast resident to participate in a local yoga teacher training from one of the participating studios.

Pensacola Seafood Festival Dishes the Best Gulf Cuisine With A Side Of Art

The 36th Annual Pensacola Seafood Festival, presented by the Fiesta of Five Flags and Florida Blue, livens up the park September 27th, 28th, and 29th in downtown Pensacola’s Seville Square. Savor delicious seafood and enjoy live entertainment in the historic surroundings of downtown Pensacola.

Visitors can browse the park for amazing original art, handmade jewelry, or unique sculptures. With more than 180 arts and crafts vendors, the Pensacola Seafood Festival is one of the largest arts and crafts fairs in Northwest Florida.


The 3rd Annual ‘Gulf to Table’ area in Fountain Park will again feature local restaurants and caterers that will serve tapas style dishes of their signature recipes to festival guests. Participants in the Gulf to Table area this year include local favorites such as Dharma Blue, Fisherman’s Corner, Jerry’s Cajun Café, Fish House, Sons of Italy Buona Fortuna Lodge, The Wine Bar, Chet’s Seafood Restaurant, and Nancy’s Haute Affairs.


In addition to amazing food and one of a kind art, guests will enjoy the sounds of some of the area’s best live entertainment from all genre’s including blues, country, and rock. Featured acts include Tobacco Road, Wes Loper Band, Brothers Osborne, Sol Driven Train, Eric Erdman Trio, and the Molly Ringwalds. This year, The Pensacola Seafood Festival has teamed up with the 5th Annual Pensacola Beach Songwriters Festival for ‘SongFest’ 2013. Songwriters will be performing in a special listening room tent at the Fiesta Seafood Grille throughout the weekend. This will be your opportunity to get a sneak peak of the Pensacola Beach Songwriters Festival to be held in October.

Now in its 2nd year, The Fiesta Seafood Grille, presented by Pensacola Energy, will feature local chefs who share their cooking secrets for preparing their favorite cuisine with an emphasis on fresh seafood. Held in Fountain Park, guest will learn some of the best kept cooking secrets from some of Pensacola’s favorites like Dharma Blue, Grand Marlin, Jaco’s, and Scenic Hills Country Club.

The little seafood lovers can get in on the fun in the children’s area, located in Bartram Park. With plenty of fun activities for children of all ages like hands on arts and crafts, sand art and face painting, this is sure to be a fun event for everyone. Hours for the children’s area are Saturday, September 28th from 10 am to 6 pm, and Sunday, September 29th from 11 am to 5 pm.


This year’s winning Festival Poster artist is Pensacola/Gulf Breeze native, Carole Holland-Doyle. Her seascapes have been described as “not only beautiful but thought provoking and environmentally conscious.” With each series, she attempts to bring the beauty of water and its inhabitants to a broader audience.

Holland-Doyle will be on site signing limited edition prints. Posters and T-shirts showcasing her art will be sold at official merchandise booths. Posters are $25 and Holland-Doyle will be signing posters on Friday, September 27th from 5 pm - 7 pm, Saturday, September 28th from 11 am - 1 pm and 4 pm - 7 pm as well as Sunday, September 29th from 12 pm - 2 pm.


Admission to the festival is free, and festival hours are 11 am – 11 pm on Friday, 10 am – 11 pm on Saturday, and 11 am – 5 pm on Sunday.
