270 Volunteers team up with Pensacola Habitat and Keep Pensacola Beautiful this March

Pensacola, FL (February 27, 2017) – On March 9th, from 7:30 am until 2:30 pm, a contingent of over 250 students and volunteers will complete a number of beautification projects located throughout the Westside Garden District of Pensacola. The coalition will be a unique partnership between Students Today Leaders Forever (STLF), Pensacola Habitat for Humanity, Keep Pensacola Beautiful, the Westside Garden District Neighborhood Association, and the City of Pensacola. As a part of their Pay It Forward Tour, STLF will visit the city with the intention of creating sizable impact in the downtown area.

“This is a huge and excited group of volunteers coming to the Westside Garden District. The work they will accomplish in the neighborhood will generate tangible, lasting change and kicks off the Great American Cleanup 2017 for our coalition partner, Keep Pensacola Beautiful. We are so excited to be collaborating with the City of Pensacola and so many incredible organizations, to deliver on Pensacola Habitat’s promise to be an impactful community development organization,” explains Neighborhood Revitalization Director, Peggy Fowler. “Work like this directly benefits the entire community, not only this westside neighborhood, by creating community pride and ownership. Alongside the Westside Garden District Neighborhood Association, we are continuing our focus in this neighborhood to create a sustainable, and vibrant, community.”

The volunteer event will see a wide array of activities completed throughout the area. The activities include: right-of-way and vacant lot cleanup, St. John’s Cemetery headstone photographic archiving, and planting a butterfly garden at the Theophalis May Resource Center. Pensacola Habitat is also on the lookout for any elderly or disabled homeowners in the area, between the cross streets of Cervantes and Pace and Garden and A Street, who need help with lawn maintenance. By visiting www.pensacolahabitat.org/nr/apply, any qualifying homeowner can apply for assistance.
